Peter Beswick

Peter Beswick is the previous owner of the Rembrandt on Canal Street. In 1982, Peter took over the running of the Rembrandt from the previous owners who had also run it as a gay establishment for 25 years. Before that the Rem was known as the Ogden Arms and they had welcomed a gay following since the early 1940s.

The Rembrandt, with The Old Union and The Old New York, were the original three gay establishments in the Village. Peter preserved the Rembrandt as a gay establishment during his 24 years until his retirement to Australia in 2009.

In 1991 the first Pride event was held outside The Rembrandt on Canal Street and until his departure for his new life Down Under, Peter was very much involved in the annual Pride events and will continue to support and spread the word of Manchester Pride in Queensland.
