My Beautiful Laundrette

Film screening of 80's classic. Set in Thatcher’s London, the story follows British-Pakistani Omar as he takes over his uncle’s laundrette and reconnects with childhood friend and National Front sympathiser, Johnny. The pair embark on a passionate love affair which challenges culture, morals and politics. Written by Hanif Kureishi, the film is a snapshot of the complexities of race relations at a time of social and economic upheaval.
