A CITY TO BE PROUD IN: 50 WINDOWS OF CREATIVITY
From the team behind the hugely successful Bee in the City, Wild in Art
in partnership with Manchester City Council will create a free-to-view exhibition of a series of works created by Greater Manchester artists, makers, designers and creatives; displayed in the windows of and on the walls of occupied and vacant buildings in Manchester city centre. All works will be linked via a trail map and app, encouraging people to discover them all.
Work on display will be available for sale with a selection of works will be sold at auction at the conclusion of the project.
We are delighted to be partnering with the NQ Gallery at Corn Exchange for the 50 Windows of Creativity initiative. Both NQ Gallery and the Corn Exchange itself are renowned for their support of LGBTQ+ communities in Greater Manchester. Both have taken part in campaigns, initiatives and awareness raising in support of LGBTQ+ communities and artists over the years and NQ Gallery is supporting our window by displaying artwork bt LGBTQ+ creatives in its windows during the initiative.
We enlisted Manchester-based photographer and designer Lee Baxter
to conceptualise our window. His images tend to be visualised and constructed from a graphic perspective, informed through his visual design experience. Living in a vibrant city, its colourful residents, and its multi-faceted architectural landscape make for an inspiring backdrop to create an ongoing, expanding body of work.
In 2019, we launched our new visual identity, designed to better represent the make-up of LGBTQ+ communities within Greater Manchester. It celebrates Trans, Intersex, Bisexual, Pansexual, Asexual, Non-binary, Genderqueer people along with some of our community’s subcultures such as Bears, Leather & Rubber, and the community's allies.
Our window aims to demonstrate that Pride is for everyone. Our goal is for every member of the community and its allies to walk past our window and 'see' themselves both in our identity and in the mirror, and recognise that Manchester is A City To Be Proud In.
We'd love to see your selfies - make sure you share them with us and tag us @manchesterpride on Instagram and Twitter.
