Dolly-Rose Campbell flies the flag for Manchester Pride in more ways than one

Soap star and charity ambassador, Dolly-Rose Campbell has come out to show her support for LGBTQ+ people in a new film released by Manchester Pride to announce the new format to their annual August Bank Holiday Manchester Pride Festival.

Dolly-Rose, who plays Gemma Winter on the Manchester-based soap, performs the voiceover on the iconic “Mine is The Pride” video, which was released following the format announcement.

It features footage of Manchester Pride celebrations from 2018 as well as cutaway images from the new location for the festival at Mayfield Depot. Dolly-Rose can be heard throughout the video reading a striking poem on the importance of Pride and LGBTQ+ culture, recognising the immense success and liberation but also raising awareness for equality and diversity.

Her voice-over comes as a result of her years of support for the charity and LGBTQ+ people in Greater Manchester. Her hard work has been recognised by Manchester Pride and, in 2018, Dolly-Rose was appointed an official ambassador for the charity.

Upon her new merit, Dolly-Rose stated “I am thrilled to be an ambassador for Manchester Pride. The work that Manchester Pride does throughout the year to engage with and create opportunities for people in Manchester’s LGBTQ+ community and beyond makes a huge difference to so many people’s lives.”

She continued “It was an honour to do the voiceover for this video. Manchester Pride is one of my favourite times of the year in Manchester. It is a time when everyone comes together to show that love and kindness will always triumph over hate and prejudice. I have been coming to Pride for over a decade now, the love and acceptance shown by the people of Manchester allowed me to accept my bisexuality and be proud of who I am.”

Manchester Pride Festival takes place over four days in Manchester city centre every August Bank Holiday (23 - 26 August). The new format will be made up of six key elements, extending the reach of the LGBTQ+ event even further and creating new touch points for all LGBTQ+ people across Greater Manchester and beyond.

The Mine is the Pride video, featuring Dolly-Rose’s voiceover, can be viewed here.
