A STATEMENT FROM MANCHESTER PRIDE IN RESPONSE TO THE CANCELLATION OF PRIDE IN LIVERPOOL
STANDING IN SOLIDARITY WITH PRIDE IN LIVERPOOL
We are deeply saddened to hear the news that Pride in Liverpool 2025 has been cancelled due to rising costs and funding challenges. Our hearts go out to the team at LCR Pride Foundation and the entire LGBTQ+ community in Liverpool.
Pride is more than a celebration, it’s a lifeline. It's a space for visibility, protest, unity, and joy. The loss of a Pride event impacts far more than a weekend in the calendar, it affects connection, safety, and the right for LGBTQ+ people to take up space, loudly and proudly.
This news is a stark reminder that our community’s spaces are not guaranteed. They require sustained support from individuals, businesses, and institutions to survive and thrive. Rising costs, shrinking budgets, and performative allyship put real pressure on Pride organisations doing vital work year-round.
At Manchester Pride, we stand shoulder to shoulder with our friends in Liverpool. Their work has inspired, uplifted, and supported countless people, and we know they will continue to do so with the strength and resilience our community is known for.
Now more than ever, we call on allies, sponsors, local authorities, and supporters to move beyond symbolism and take meaningful action:
Fund your LGBTQ+ networks so they can participate in Pride Parades
Sponsor Pride events authentically
Engage with LGBTQ+ communities
Show up! Not just when it’s easy or convenient, but especially when it’s hard.
We must protect Pride, because nobody’s free until everybody’s free.
